Why Can't Sit Still?

Having suffered from birth trauma, it was so isolating not being able to meet other parents in the usual way of parent and baby groups, which of course had all stopped during the pandemic. A beacon of light was offered when I attended Can't Sit Stills parent well being group back in February 2021. It was the ONLY group my daughter and I could attend during covid times. We met socially distanced outside in all weather's, where we walked, talked, sung(!) and shared our experiences. The group leaders allowed us the space to 'bitch and brag' about our successes and annoyances. It had the right amount of empathy, coupled with the ability to make me belly laugh (thanks Angie Belcher). The sessions made me feel less alone and it began the very important task of making new friends and creating our Mumma and Baby network.

Through Can't Sit Still I also booked one of their 'Door step performances' which was an intimate gig for me and my daughter performed... you guessed it... on our door step. The gig gave me a very special memory and moment with my daughter, that felt like it made up for the first precious moments we lost when she was born.

Can't Sit Still creates new, devised performances and projects spanning theatre, circus, and live music. We make work with and for unusual audiences*, often in unusual locations**.

They tell stories and start conversations that have the power to change the world, by turning ideas, systems and people*** upside down.

*unusual audiences - children, young people, people who are labelled as having special needs (PMLD, SLD, MLD), people who identify as being on the Autistic Spectrum, people who are D/deaf, new mothers and birth parents with babies, people who use English as a second language and anyone who, for any reason, might not believe that the arts are for them.

**unusual locations - libraries, children’s centres, outdoors, doorsteps, village halls, town halls, screens and anywhere you might not normally expect to find a performance.

***may contain handstands.
